Dallas is a meteorologist from Mayfield, KY. He chased his first tornado as a freshman meteorology major in 2016 when a less-famous EF-3 went through the north side of Mayfield. He went on to intern with NASA, NOAA, and the NWS while completing his bachelor’s degrees in GIS (aka mapping software) and meteorology from Western Kentucky University. In 2020 Dallas was awarded a graduate fellowship from the American Meteorological Society to study atmospheric science at the University of Utah under Dr. Jim Steenburgh, aka @professorpowder, meteorologist for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Dallas’ career changed focus from lake-effect snowstorms to supercell thunderstorms in Dec 2021 when an EF-4 tornado leveled his hometown of Mayfield, KY. In the summer of 2022, he participated in the Targeted Observations by RADARs and UAS of Supercells (better known as TORUS) research program funded by the National Science Foundation. During TORUS, Dallas guided a team of engineers collecting data in the inflow of supercells, such as the May 23 Enochs, TX; the May 31 Arkansas City, KS; and June 9 and 10 Belle Fourche, SD storms. After finishing his master’s program and a brief stint with FEMA, Dallas has founded Storm Chasing For Science to collect the data and train the citizen scientists that will improve tornado prediction.
Donovan is an engineer from Mayfield, KY who developed a fascination with weather and storm dynamics, drawn to the raw power of extreme weather. He worked as a research assistant in material dynamics, analyzing data from NASA Ames before earning his degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2021. Since graduating, he has worked in the mechanical and electrical engineering industries while pursuing his Professional Engineering (PE) license. Although not in "tornado alley," his hometown has endured two major tornadoes in the past decade, including the December 10, 2021, Quad-State EF-4. The scars of that storm remain visible today, a lasting reminder of nature’s force and the importance of understanding it. He has chased multiple storms in the Western Kentucky area, most notably the May 26, 2024 Eddyville, KY supercell. Donovan’s goal is to contribute to storm research and documentation, advancing the science that will one day improve forecasting, reduce impacts, and save lives.
Liam—or maybe William—hails from Murray, KY, currently navigating the ins and outs of business studies at Murray State University. Despite the ongoing identity crisis between Liam and William, he’s thriving on campus both academically and socially. An active presence on social media, he’s the go-to guy for the latest trends and viral moments—though don’t ask him about the weather forecast. In fact, he’ll be the first to admit he knows nothing about weather and would rather avoid storms altogether. When not diving into case studies or avoiding ominous clouds, Liam (or William) is often found playing sports, studying chess, or being injured. While he might still be figuring out his name, Liam/William knows he’s eager to connect, grow, and find his place in the marketing world.
